The Bachelor of Commerce in Information and Technology Management develops applied competence in analysing, interpreting and applying information technology (IT) management principles and methods. It further develops the intellectual, research and professional skills of the student.
The qualification prepares students to meaningfully participate in the management of information technology in organisations and contribute to the well-being of the organisation.
A secondary purpose is to provide a convenient and appropriate avenue into information technology management studies and eventually gainful employment for students coming straight out of school

The final assessment mark for each module consists of an assignment (40 %) and a written examination (60 %). Examinations are written at the end of each semester.

• Managers requiring the skill to manage, analyse and interpret information for better decision-making.



The programme is delivered through supported distance learning. Workshops are held each semester to support students in their studies. A study guide accompanies each module. The guide includes compulsory readings, self-study activities, tutorial letters and assessment exercises. In addition, students have access to online journals, past examination papers and supplementary learning materials available on the website.



Upon completion of this programme, the student should be able to:
• Use appropriate research methods / techniques to develop solutions to problems.
• Analyse the importance of information technology and information management in contemporary organisations.
• Evaluate the best approach for risk analysis standards and best practices that can be applied.
• Apply Strategy Maps to the organisational vision to derive the organisational strategies and business objectives.
• Develop a policy framework on information technology asset security and the management of information technology security.
• Analyse future trends within the IT industry and select trends to suit organisations.
• Explain the impact of new technologies on the IT governance framework and the process for implementing a project management methodology.
• Differentiate between various architectural styles and choosing an architectural style within an organisation.
• Explain the impact and consequences of designing IT systems within isolation of the other business.
• Align business and technology through service-oriented design.
